Like any complex machine, eyes require proper maintenance & regular checkups.
How to take care of your eyes?
1. Healthy Diet :
Colored fruits & vegetables are a good source of vitamin A needed for the eyes.

2. Enough Sleep :
Adequate sleep is a must. For children up to 13 yrs at least 9 hours, for others - 7 ½ to 8 hrs.

3. Regular Eye Check-ups :
When to suspect eye problem in child?
- Squint
- Child goes close to TV
- Parents wear glasses
If child already wears glasses, number can increase with growth of child.
Check every 6 months
In Adults over 40 yrs : Yearly exam with eye doctor, Specially if there is BP / Diabetes

4. Proper Habits for :
Studying : Good posture, sitting upright, Correct lighting (Light from above & left side), Comfortable seating.
Computer : Keep top of monitor at eye level, Proper room lighting, Frequent breaks - look at a distance every ½ hour.
TV : Sitting Upright, Distance of 8 to 10 feet, Never watch with room lights switched off. 1 to 2 hrs is the maximum one should watch TV in a day.
5. Eye Exercises:
Palming : Relaxing for tired strained eyes,
Rest elbows on a table,
Gently cover (don’t press) closed eyes with palms for 3 minutes.
Eye movements in various directions : Hold thumb in front of face,
Follow its movement with the eyes.
Follow thumb movements in various directions : Up, down right & left,
Bring close to the nose & take it back,
Rotate in a circle, clockwise & anticlockwise.
WHEN TO DO?
- Eye movement exercises in the morning, repeat 3 times
- Do palming when eyes are tired. Do as often as required
